The Jealous Friend
John and James were best friends right from primary school up to the higher institution, after school, they did their National Youth service, and began to look for employment in different companies but to no avail.
Luckily for the both of them, a production company decided to give them a job because of God's favour upon them and they were employed as junior sale assistants with a salary of $500 per month.
After working for two years in the company, John was promoted to the position of a senior sales manager while James was left in his current position of a junior sale assistant.
After six months, James became tired of working with John and so, he decided to resign. When he submitted his resignation letter, he was asked by his boss, Mr. Phil, why he wanted to resign and he said it was because he and John were employed on the same day and at the same time but John was promoted while he wasn't. Then Mr. Phil, understanding his problem told him that if he wanted to know why John was promoted and he wasn't that he should come by 4.00am the next day.
Being a late comer, James came by 4.45am but when he was about to sign his register, he saw that John had already signed in by 4.00am. He did not believe it but Mr. Phil showed him the video taken by a surveillance camera and the time it was taken and surprisingly, it was recorded at exactly 4.00am. This was the first qualification of John i.e. punctuality. The second qualification of John was accuracy in figures and reports. To prove this, John was asked by Mr. Phil to go to the closeby market and ask for the price of a bottle of water. James immediately drove out and came back 10 minutes afterwards and said that a bottle of water is $2. The same task was given to John and after 30 minutes,when he came back, James was happy because he was faster, but take a look at John's report below:
Sir, the price of a bottle of water is $2 and to buy a pack of bottled water we will spend an amount of $24 because there are 12 bottles in a pack but seems we are offered a discount of 8%,we will purchase a pack of bottled water for $22.8. When James heard all these, he did not need a soothsayer or magician to tell him that John was more qualified than himself. So, James kept his job and learnt all he could learn from John from that day onwards.
So, if you were in the shoes of the employer, who would you have promoted? James or John. BE HONEST.
